In this class you don’t learn how to paint. Learning painting is like learning how to play the violin. It takes hours and hours of daily training. This class instead takes you out of your studio practice and gives you a couple of hopefully useful concepts on ideas from the French and American school of painting. Together with the Swedish painter Karin Mamma Andersson and the American art historian James Meyer we will examine a plaster pig and lion I bought on eBay to examine the painting concepts All-overness, Form-weaving, warm and cold, and more. We will try find out where painting stands now in our postcolonial culture and discuss where to go.
