Former KiT professor of painting Jon Arne Mogstad (now artistic director at Surnadal Billag) and current KiT professor Jeremy Welsh have been selected as festival artists for this year's Molde Jazz festival in July. The exhibition takes place at Møre og Romsdal Kunstsenter in the centre of Molde. The exhibition will include a series of new paintings by Mogstad and a combination of video and digital prints by Welsh. Mogstad and Welsh have exhibited together on many occasions since their first joint show in the old academy project room (now part of Solsiden) in 1995. From 2004 - 2010 they had an ongoing collaborative project with sound artist Trond Lossius, which concluded with an installation at Bergen Kunstmuseum. The project was revived with a :"stunt" exhibition at Surnadal Billag in 2018. In recent times Jon Arne Mogstad has exhibited at LNM in Oslo and Welsh has made audio visual concert works with Trondheim musician Michael Francis Duch, as well as a series of installations with Trond Lossius, most recently a TEKS in September 2019.
The Molde Jazz festival itself has a rich and exciting programmne. The year's artist in residence is legendary New York composer/musician John Zorn and other highlights include John McLaughlin, Herbie Hancock and from Norway, Maja S.K. Ratkje, Stian Westerhus, Erlend Apneseth Trio and Ola Kvernberg. Plus lots more. Recommended!
