The newly formed group Moaners, broadcasts the live stream of their moaning sessions to the center of a square.
A sound wave of multiple voices will be traveling from Trondheim Academy of Fine Art, Norway and wandering up in the skies over the sunny sides of our city. We invite you and your friends to join us for collective listening and breathing at the square near Solsiden mall, to cultivate some thoughtful samplings of sound in the background noise.
During this live gathering, at the center of our moan circle, a group of women, meet indoors, collectively in the dark. We lay down to experiment with our voice and breath, making noise and chirping commotion.
The intention is in the polyphonic experience we create and change for one another. We began improvising with our voices in different private spaces.
We met this January 27, 29, 30 and onwards, and refer to our activity as moaning sessions that last one hour each. They involve our voices appearing and disappearing from different source points in the circle of bodies above our heads, including improvisations of coughing, laughing, wailing, weeping, screaming, whooping, sobbing, and gasping for air, among others. Crucial to this asynchronous cohort is moaning one’s way through.
We exist in the common sonic of our voices’ simultaneous overlapping, in the more unconscious moments of laughter, and in the small moments of silence. We took off from the idea of ‘losing one’s control over the voice’ in defiance to the ways in which we are expected to choreograph our voices in public space. We create a clear intent for our utopian effort that such moments of public soundness can happen again in our Future For Moan!
On May 11, 2017 we will send our moans to disperse in the sky of the Chihuahuan desert. We will voyage inside-and-out of our bodies and into the sky, to discover more involuntary galaxies for our voices to occur in. Our latest sessions end in voiceless consonants, air whispers, wild chirping, political chatters, in new and unknown ways. The collaborators for this action are: Hilde Pytkowski, Prerna Bishnoi, Rosina Ivanova, Susanna Barlow.
We invite you and your friends to join us for this collective act of mumbles, breaths and mouth whistles!
