What can be the role of art and the work of artists when it comes to addressing global challenges regarding the future of the oceans?

Uncertainty, complexity, and fluidity within ocean research are challenging the borders of conventional forms of knowledge production.

They may open up new opportunities for interventions and real change carried out in new coalitions of agencies and stakeholders.

Francesca von Habsburg, chairwomen of “Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary, Vienna” (TBA21), one of the most important contemporary art collections, and Markus Reymann, director of TBA21-Academy, will talk with scientists and artists about new forms of collaborations across different fields of artistic practices and scientific research.

The panel is moderated by Florian Schneider, Head of NTNU’s Academy of Fine Art. It takes place within an installation of photographic work by the artist Armin Linke and Giulia Bruno who documented activities in the research laboratories of NTNU Ocean and SINTEF. The installation will be exhibited in the Trondheim Spektrum as part of the Starmus Festival.
