Guest lecture / artist talk by Kari Dyrdal, professor in textiles at KMD (Faculty of Art, Music and Design), University of Bergen. Dyrdal is in Trondheim to exhibit together with Jeremy Welsh at Trondheim Kunstforening, opening Thursday 10 October, 18.00. Kari Dyrdal is one of Norway's most established textile artists, exhibiting in major museums and creating large-scale public artworks. Her most recent exhibition, Forces of Nature, together with ceramicists Torbjørn Kvasbø and Marit Tingleff, was shown at the National Museum of Arts & Crafts in Sévres, France, and in Norway at KODE, Bergen Art Museum. The exhibition moves to Sørlandets Kunstmuseum, Kristiansand, in October. Among Dyrdal's public art projects is a monumental textile work in the auditorium of Bergen University Museum. (See image above). For this work, commissioned by Public Art Norway, Jeremy Welsh was artistic consultant. In common with most of Kari Dyrdal's recent production, the work was created in the digital weaving laboratory at the Dutch Textiles Museum in Tilburg. For the exhibition at Trondheim Kunstforening, a new work has been produced in Tilburg, and this will be combined with digital video projections by Welsh.
