As artists we move, relocate and displace ourselves often, both in time, space and mindset. Our artistic practice is influenced by our immediate surroundings and how we relate to it. We can embrace or remove ourselves from that which is alien to us. During project week we will explore this transitionary state by moving through, away from, around and towards the city. In different tempi and environments.
We will travel by public transport to different locations in Trondheim and the periphery areas of the city. We will walk between stops, pause, look, sense, talk and wonder together.
Preparation: Please let me know if you already have a buss pass for zone A. if not KiT will reimburse you for a 7 day buss pass (this requires smartphone with online access. If you don’t have a smartphone with online access, let me know beforehand)
Monday 26th - Prelude – Into the wild
Time: 9.30 – 15.00
We meet at KiT (be there in time, we need to catch a bus) and travel together by bus to Skistua in Bymarka. From here we will walk a short distance to Vintervatnet (Winterlake) and set up a little basecamp from which we will explore the immediate suroundings and plan routes for the next couple of days. We will return on the bus and be back at KiT by 15.00.
Need to have: Bring a packed lunch, a waterbottle, walkingshoes, comfortable clothes and a jacket, plastic bag to sit on if the ground is wet.
Nice to have: If you have a sitting or sleeping mat, blanket, thermos and extra goodies, bring it. And bring some extra for a friend. Let me know what you have and we can make ourselves comfortable. Also bring a plastic container if you wanna pick blueberries.
Keywords: walking as practice, pace, rythm, collaboration, motion, still, temporal structures, sustainable practice, exhibiting practice, audience, spend time/waste time, time in/time out.
Tuesday 27th – Through, around, engage?
Meetingplace and time will be decided by the group during Monday.
When traveling as a group we perform a temporal society, a pack. Who are we during this time?
We will be passengers, in a social context of public transport. How we choose to use this time is up to us. How do we choose to participate? Would you choose to actively engage with this new and very temporal community, surpassing personal boundaries and cultural codes and if so how? Or would you take a more observing role.
Keywords: Cultural codes, politeness, personal boundaries, comfort, chance, connection, otherness, wonder, the impossible country.
Keywords: Time, confinement, restriction, motion, record, read, review, refresh.
Bring: a notebook, pen/pencils, comfortable clothes, packed lunch, fruit, nuts
Wednesday 28th - Quiet publishing – whos watching?
Meeting place and time will be decided by the group during Monday/Tuesday.
We continue our journeys in ZONE A, visiting extremities of Trondheim, where the art spaces are scarce but people live.
Collectively we will consider different aspects of what it means to
exhibit: Quiet publishing, publishing inside/outside the institution, why do you make art?, what do you want to say?, who is your audience? Who validates your work?
Keywords: Artistic practice under pressure: artistic survival practices. No materials, no space, little time, disturbance, disruptive, focus, strategies, available materials.
Thursday 29th – Solo journey – rhythm and pace
Thursday is for solo ventures. Pick a journey and travel alone or with others. Maybe this will just be a short commute to KiT and back. Maybe you choose to sit still and work in your studio.
Friday 30th – Return, retrace, rapport.
Where will be decided by the group.
Zone A – what did we make of it?
Find a way to present our findings as a group or individually. Venue to be decided.
