Introduction to Sound Recording Equipment

Within this two-hour course, students will be given a basic introduction to the sound equipment currently available at KiT. The course will cover the following subjects:

- Different types of microphones and their usage
- Sound mixer setups: in and out signals, phantom power, the difference between microphone and line signals
- H4 and H6 Zoom recorders: general use and set up of recorders, internal and external microphones, sound file formats, sound levels, etc.
- windscreens
- how to sync audio to video

Students will carry out a practical exercise of a sound recording situation. Students should offer suggestions for a practical exercise based on some ideas of that they would like to do that require audio recording.
